The local news paper St. Thomas Journal released a nice in-depth article about the induction. Rachel confirmed and talked about her upcoming projects “The Little Prince” and the still untitled Cameron Crowe project to the journalists after her acceptance speech. She also revealed she is currently working on a few other projects and there may possibly be a new movie on the way in the very near future.

Linda Maskell Pereira recalls seeing the Canadian actress Rachel McAdams on a stairwell one day when McAdams was nearing the end of high school.

Pereira was McAdams’ drama teacher at Central Elgin Collegiate Institute in the small city of St. Thomas, Ont. and she wanted to know what her student would do after graduation.

McAdams told her she planned to study social sciences at the University of Western Ontario in London, a stone’s throw from St. Thomas.

“I love drama so much but I just don’t think that it would be a very practical thing,” McAdams said, according to Pereira. “I don’t think I can get a job.”

But Pereira told her she should follow her heart and give acting a try.

“The rest is history,” Pereira said. “She went to the guidance office and changed her application.”

McAdams went on to study theatre at York University in Toronto and waded into a career that made her one of Canada’s most famous actors, and a major player in Hollywood.

That kind of fame was something nobody could predict, but Pereira saw loads of potential in her student.

“She stood out as being extremely talented and extremely gifted,” Pereira said. “And she was also a very hard worker and a really smart girl.”

McAdams reconnected with Pereira Thursday in St. Thomas, a city of about 36,000, when McAdams made a surprise visit to her hometown.

The actress attended her own induction to the St. Thomas Wall of Fame, thanks to a change in the production schedule for an upcoming animated version of The Little Prince.

McAdams was supposed to do voice-overs for the project this week but the work got pushed to next week, she told reporters.

“I’ve got the week off, and I was really happy to be able to come here and accept the honour in person,” she said.

In a speech to about 30 onlookers the star of Mean Girls (2004), The Notebook (2004) and State of Play (2009) said she was more nervous than when she attended the Oscars.

“There (at the Oscars) it’s just sort of a sea of faces,” McAdams told reporters after her speech. “You know all the people from TV or film, but these are the people who – you know, I really care what their opinion is.”

McAdams said she felt pressure to convey to her parents, Lance and Sandra, how much they provided for her.

“And I was feeling really emotional,” she said. “I mean, the Oscars isn’t really emotional, I guess, unless you win one.”

After her work on The Little Prince, McAdams is slated to shoot an as-yet-untitled Cameron Crowe film in Hawaii this fall.

McAdams wouldn’t reveal many details, but said the film stars Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone, with McAdams in a supporting role.

Music is often an important part of Crowe’s films, and McAdams said they speak about music a lot.

Crowe, a former music journalist, has also shared stories about interviews he’s done with David Bowie and Neil Young, she said.

“I’m trying to act cool, like it’s no big deal, but it’s pretty amazing,” she said. “I’m really excited to be working with him.”

McAdams told the crowd at her induction ceremony that St. Thomas was really the only home she knew when she was growing up.

She also credited Pereira and her husband Christopher Pereira – another of McAdams’ former high school teachers – for inspiring her.

“(Christopher) Pereira taught me to love Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell,” McAdams told reporters afterward. We did, like, two months on Leonard Cohen. Where does that happen, ever?

“It just goes to show what an impact teachers can have on a kid’s life, and what that can develop into.”

James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro and Paul Giamatti are on board to voice characters in a big-screen take on The Little Prince, the classic French novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

The adaptation is shaping up to have a stacked voice cast, including three recent Oscar winners in Bridges, Cotillard and Del Toro

Mark Osborne, who directed Kung Fu Panda, is helming the project, which is being produced by Onyx Films’ Aton Soumache — who produced the stylish 2006 animated film Renaissance — and Dimitri Rassam.

The story centers on a pilot who crash-lands in the Sahara desert and comes across a little boy who says he is a prince fallen to Earth from his home on an asteroid. As the pilot repairs his plane, the little prince regales him with stories about his home and the foolish inhabitants of nearby asteroids.

Bridges will voice the pilot. It was not revealed which roles the other actors were taking on.

The book, published Le Petit Prince in 1943 and translated from French into dozens of languages, proved to be a hit due to its philosophical nature, appealing to both adults and children.

The property has been adapted for both film and TV a number of times. Paramount brought a live-action version of the book to the big screen in 1974 that was directed by Stanley Donen. There is speculation that the Melrose studio would be involved with the latest version as the film’s U.S. distributor. The book most recently spawned a French TV series that began airing in 2010.

Anton Corbijn’s new film A Most Wanted Man, a modern-day espionage thriller based on a spy novel by John le Carre, takes a look at the “war on terror,” which plays a decisive and increasingly grim role in the aftermath of September 11th. Set in Hamburg, it stars Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe, Robin Wright, and Nina Hoss. As was the case in his first two cinematic endeavors (Control and The American), Anton Corbijn has again combined his own documentary photographs of the shooting and comments into a superlative film and photo book in which “fact and fiction” are shown to full advantage against the backdrop of Hamburg’s cityscape.

The cast and crew returned to Hamburg last week for re-shoots for the movie. Director Anton Corbijn also revealed last month to the dutch press that post-production is expected to finish in July of this year and that they are aiming for a fall 2013 release. The movie is still without an U.S. distributor, so no firm release date has been set.

Rachel will be part of the A Night Out With The Millennium Network evening in Toronto next week as ‘Honorable Ambassador’. The event is hosted by The Clinton Foundation. President Bill Clinton will speak during the event and Tegan and Sara will give a special acoustic performance. The event will take place Tuesday, June 4th in the Berkeley Church in Toronto.

After blockbuster hits such as Notting Hill and Love Actually, Richard Curtis’s films took a more serious turn.

But now the master of romantic comedy has returned to his roots with a light-hearted film about time travel.

About Time, starring Bill Nighy, Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson, son of actor Brendan, tells the story of a 21-year-old who discovers he can travel in time and change his life and decides to try to get a girlfriend.

Curtis’s credits also include Black-adder, Mr Bean and The Vicar of Dibley and the screenplay for Bridget Jones’s Diary, but his recent projects, such as The Girl in the Cafe, set against the backdrop of a G8 summit, and Mary and Martha, about preventing malaria, have followed more serious themes.

Producer Tim Bevan today said there has been a gap in the romantic comedy market of the same “pedigree” as Love Actually, Notting Hill and Four Weddings And A Funeral.

He told the Standard: “For Richard’s core audience, generally women from 20 upwards, there hasn’t been a movie like this in a long while. It’s been 10 years since Love Actually, it’s a long time since the Bridget Jones films.I think this film will get a good response. There are deep emotions in it, between father and son.”

The £13 million movie took 10 weeks to shoot last summer, half of the time in Cornwall and the rest in London.

Bevan said it was “the lowest-tech time travel film ever made, it’s not about that, it’s about real people, you forget about time travel after five minutes.”

The film is due for general UK release in September but is one of several to be premiered at the open-air Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House between August 8 and 21.

Bevan said the outdoor event would be like a “people’s premiere” and added: “Richard said while we were filming it would be great to do something different rather than a premiere in Leicester Square, which I think people are getting a bit bored with.”

Curtis himself said: “I’m tremendously excited about it happening at Somerset House, one of my favourite open spaces in London.”
