Rachel in “The Reluctant Fundamentalist”?

Yet another possible project surfaced. While I was looking for new information on the current projects I came across a new possible project listed on Itsonthegrid.com. Rachel is listed as Erica (lead) in the upcoming movie “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” based on the novel by Mohsin Hamid. The movie will be directed by Mira Nair who got the rights to the movie since 2007. Nair confirmed a few weeks ago the male lead will be Rizwan Ahmed who will be playing Changez.

Production Company: Cine Mosaic, Mirabai Films
Studio: Independent Feature – Financed
Director: Mira Nair
Producer: Mira Nair, Lydia Pilcher
Writer: Mohsin Hamid, Bill Wheeler

Plot: Changez, a Princeton graduate from Pakistan, succeeds on Wall Street, thriving in his adopted city. But in the wake of September 11, Changez finds his position in his adopted city suddenly overturned and his relationships tested. His involvement with pro-Pakistan demonstrations are called into question as is his connection to a possibly extremist student. After another attack, Changez’s link to the student implicates him indirectly to the group responsible. A thriller unfolds as Changez is forced to choose – a country, a way of life, where he belongs.

Yet there is still the matter of his beloved Erica, who is friendly with Changez but mourning the death of her former boyfriend, Chris, from lung cancer. Changez is polite and formal; Erica is uninhibited, going topless, for instance, on a beach in Greece. The two become intimate, but she is haunted by Chris, and after 9/11 her sadness mysteriously turns pathological. She lands in an institution, then disappears.

We don’t have full access to Itsonthegrid.com so we can not read the related articles and we don’t know how much Rachel is actually involved in the project. IMDB and NY Times aren’t listing this project on Rachel’s resumé and we didn’t find more sources that confirm her involvement so keep in mind this is yet another possible project for Rachel.

Rachel mentioned for “How To Love an American Man”

Another possible project has surfaced the web for Rachel, according to the New York Post Rachel is mentioned for the upcoming movie “How To Love an American Man” based on the upcoming novel of Kristine Gasbarre. The book will be released next week (August 16). Other actresses are Katherine Heigl, Anne Hathaway and Zooey Deschanel. Zooey is the favorite one for the part in the eyes of the author.

Hollywood agents are scrambling to land their A-list actresses the lead role in a planned movie of the upcoming, buzzed-about memoir of love and self-discovery, “How To Love an American Man.”
They believe it is the perfect vehicle for sweethearts Katherine Heigl, Anne Hathaway or Zooey Deschanel to be attached to before it’s optioned into a screenplay.

Touted as the next “Eat, Pray, Love” but with “more heart,” the HarperCollins tome will hit shelves next week. And it already has dealmakers at Creative Artists Agency, Paradigm and United Talent Agency pushing to align their talent with the book ahead of its release.

“It’s worth optioning based on the title alone,” one top agent told us.

Paradigm was the first agency to get wind of emerging author Kristine Gasbarre’s true story in 2010 when it reviewed the first manuscript. Heigl was initially discussed as the ideal fit for the role. Hathaway and Rachel McAdams have also been mentioned.

Latest Press Highlights: “The Vow”, “Morning Glory” and “Siler Linings”

News is coming in slowly the past few week(s) since Rachel is done with the promo for “Midnight in Paris” and no official confirmation so far on any possible projects. We do however have some latest news bits for you.

• We came across a brand new on set photo from “The Vow”. (via Fanforum) Rachel’s co-star Dillon Casey posted it on his official twitter account. Rachel is posing with her co-stars Channing Tatum, Sam Neill, Dillon Casey and Jessica McNamee. You can find the preview below and be sure to watch it in our gallery.

• We also came across a brand new outtake from Rachel’s promotional shoot for “Morning Glory”. She looks absolutely stunning, again the preview can be found below and the full outtake in our gallery.

• We reported earlier Rachel is one of the actresses who was testing for the lead in “The Silver Linings Playbook” with director David O Russell and starring Mark Wahlberg as male lead. Today Deadline is reporting that actress Jennifer Lawrence is the front runner for the role which means, if the news is true, Rachel will not be in the movie. Keep in mind nothing is confirmed (yet).

Press Highlights: SH2, The Vow & Twitter

There isn’t much to update you on lately. Rachel is done with promoting “Midnight in Paris” and there is still no confirmation on the ‘in development’ projects like “Luna“, “The Silver Linings Playbook” and “Ecstasia“. But here are some press highlights from this week.

• The first official trailer for “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” was released yesterday. It aired on Entertainment tonight and was released via Itunes afterwards. You can watch and download the trailer via this link. The official website is also up, with a temporary version. Rachel only has a cameo (small part) in the movie, so we didn’t get any footage of Rachel as Irene Adler in the trailer.

• Scott Speedman recently talked to Movie Web about one of his recent movies, but he also talked a little bit about “The Vow” and his character. We added the quote to our “The Vow” information page.

Can you talk about your character in The Vow at all?
My character in The Vow is I’m Rachel McAdams’ ex-fiancee. She loses her memory in the movie and she can’t remember her current husband, Channing Tatum, but she remembers me, so she goes back to her old life and we kind of spark things up a little bit. It’s a good character, a bit different than the stuff I’ve usually done, which was interesting for me to do. It was great to work with all those people.

• We can also report Rachel does not have a twitter account. Michael Sheen, her “Midnight in Paris” co-star, confirmed himself a few hours ago she doesn’t have a twitter account when someone asked him. You can follow our twitter account @rachelmonline.

• “Midnight in Paris” still goes strong in the US. It’s still in the top 12 after being released in May, and it’s on it’s way to be Woody Allen’s highest-grossing movie ever!

Rounding out the Top 12, Midnight in Paris declined 26 percent to $2.6 million. With a total of $38.6 million, it’s now a lock to pass Hannah and Her Sisters ($40.1 million) to become director Woody Allen’s highest-grossing movie ever.

With the new draft in place, producers are moving toward a mid-to-late 2011 start date, and if McAdams signs on, look for it to be soon.

Another Possible Project with Matthew McConaughey?

We came across another possible future project via The Tracking Board. The site posted an article on February 15, 2011 with the title “Rachel McAdams Set To Play Sexy Con-Woman To Matthew McConaughey’s Master Thief!“. The article is only available for subscribers, so can not access the full article but the title suggests that Rachel is possibly involved in a project with Matthew McConaughey called “Brilliant“.

We tried to find more sources that confirm this news, or even more information on this project but we did not find any so we are kind of doubting if it’s true. It will help a lot if we have the complete article, so if someone has a subscription to The Tracking Board please send us an e-mail. The Tracking Board recently reported about a possible involvement in “Ecstasia” with James McAvoy but no confirmation so far.

Possible Future Project: “The Silver Linings Playbook”

Today we can update you with another new future project, earlier this week we reported Rachel was considered for “Ecstasia“ from writer/director Wayne Kramer.

Now the Hollywood Reporter is reporting David O Russell (The Figther) is testing actresses, including Rachel, this weekend for his upcoming movie “The Silver Linings Playbook” with Mark Wahlberg.

The next few days may very well determine which actress gets the golden ticket to star in The Silver Linings Playbook, director David O Russell’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning comeback film, The Fighter.

The Weinstein Co. movie again reteams Russell with his Fighter star Mark Wahlberg in the story of a man who suffers from a mental collapse and is released from a health facility determined to find the silver linings in his life.

The hot Hollywood role of the moment is that of a depressed woman who, when her husband dies, goes on a sexual spree, even at the cost of her job. She befriends the man and becomes his love interest.

According to insiders, Russell is intensely screen-testing the following in-demand actresses in Los Angeles starting today and going into the weekend: Elizabeth Banks, Kirsten Dunst, Blake Lively, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Andrea Riseborough and Olivia Wilde.

Sources also say Jennifer Lawrence may be in the running as well but that is unclear.

Russell is eyeing an August start date.

Rachel Eyed for “Ecstasia” with James McAvoy

The Tracking Board posted an article about the possibility of Rachel and James McAvoy starring in the upcoming drama “Ecstasia“, written and directed by Wayne Kramer. The article is only accessible for subscribers of the site, but thanks to a James McAvoy forum we have the article.

We’re hearing James McAvoy and Rachel McAdams are both the frontrunners for Relativity Media and Wayne Kramer’s upcoming sci-fi love tale ECSTASIA. The film, which is ambitious both in scope and idea, takes place in an alternate universe where love doesn’t exist, but can be artificially simulated through a very expensive procedure known as “commitment”, which implants both people with computer chips that link up. The story follows one couple as they struggle to make their monthly “commitment” payment, or forever be turned off, and lost to one another.

McAvoy, who was most recently seen in “X:Men: First Class” is currently in preproduction on “Welcome To the Punch”. McAdams, who was most recently seen in Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” has four films set for release, including “The Vow” and the sequel to “Sherlock Holmes”.

The story centers on a time in the future when love only exists through artificial creation at a high price, through a procedure simply known as “commitment,” and follows a couple who goes to desperate measures to try to afford the high price of love.

We reported earlier Rachel is also considered for the upcoming “Luna” project from Doug Liman, but no official cast is announced as of yet. You can read the full list of in development projects over here. Keep in mind no official future project is confirmed for Rachel as of yet, but it’s good to know she is still considered for a bunch of project.

“Luna”/Doug Liman Project gets the Green Light

Late March we reported Rachel met with director Doug Liman for the untitled, rumored to be titled “Luna“, project. The movie didn’t got the green light then depending on the casting but according to Variety Paramount has put the “finishing touches” on the deal, working with Skydance Pictures and New Regency to co-finance.

It’s still not confirmed Rachel will be joining the movie but with the fact that the movie actually got the green light we can expect the official casting announcement in the next weeks. The possible male lead(s) are rumored to be Andrew Garfield, Emile Hirsch, Chris Pine and the latests additions are Bradley Cooper (Rachel’s ‘Wedding Crashers’ co-star) and Chris Evans. The female lead(s) that are rumored to be considered are, besides Rachel, Rosario Dawson, Megan Fox, Eva Mendes, Zoe Saldana and Olivia Wilde.

The movie will be start filming later on this year. At this moment no new projects for Rachel are confirmed. All her current projects are in post-production and awaiting for release, so we really hope this project or another project will be announced soon.

Latest News/Rumours Round-up – Part II

We did not expected to do another latest news round-up so soon after our previous one but we have little bits and pieces to share with you after our last update.

• Since “Midnight in Paris” is opening film for Cannes 2011 and the Film Festival is coming closer it’s getting a lot of buzz and name dropping for the cast, which is a good sign of course. The festival held a press conference yesterday to reveal the official competition selection, according to the press kitMidnight in Paris” is out of the competition so it’s only premiering at the festival. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting the Opening of the festival will bring us a Midnight madness on the Croisette to kick off the festivities. Rachel, Owen Wilson, Carla Bruni, Marion Cotillard, and Adrien Brody are expected to attend.

• “Morning Glory” is still opening world wide and opened in France last week. The movie entered the French box office at number #6 this week. The movie itself does pretty good in the box office and already made $26,564,667 outside the US. It’s already available for the US on DVD since early March.

• We reported before Rachel is not listed in the official cast of the upcoming theater project “The Passion” and we said it’s not most likely she will make an appearance like according to local rumors she would. But she was seen during rehearsals yesterday and today and according to a tweeter she will be in the production. Apparently we misinterpreted the tweet, Rachel only showed up to rehearsals to watch and support Michael Sheen. Read our original post for more information about the project. The event is held in Port Talbot (Wales) during the easter weekend.
