Plot Outline: When an aide to prominent US Congressman Stephen Collins dies in what initially appears to be an accident, two journalists from the Washington Globe newspaper investigate when they obtain information that it may not have been an accident. The dead woman was the Congressman’s chief researcher in hearings concerning a private sector security firm supplementing the use of US Armed Forces around the world. She was also Collins’ lover. The two journalists have contrasting styles: Cal McCaffrey is a traditional print journalist who uses his contacts in the police department to get his information while Della Frye uses new media such as blogging to get her information out to the public quickly. As they delve into the role the private company might play in domestic security, McCaffrey also realizes they have all been duped into making one serious, but false, assumption.

Character Quotes
Della Frye: What you mean … Do you mean like, now?
Cal McAffrey: Yeah, like now. Sorry. Who am I calling? I was trying to get Della Frye the reporter.
Della Frye: Gee, I’m sorry. I thought that I was talking to the guy who wouldn’t give me the time of day this morning.
Della Frye: I was just trying to get my facts straight.
Della Frye: I’m not giving up the story! I just … Sorry … I just …. If I could just have a few more days with it, I promise you I’m not gonna let you down.
Cameron Lynne: For Christ’s sake. Don’t throw those dewy cub reporter eyes at me. It’s nauseating.
Della Frye: Oh, my God, Cal, we could have stopped this!
Cal McAffrey: What, by being psychic?
Della Frye: God, Cal, we can’t just let people get hurt like that.
Cal McAffrey: Look, it’s over. It’s all right. It’s okay.
Della Frye: We can’t just keep getting people get killed.
Della Frye: Did they outsource to Mumbai or something? Or are they just getting ready for an expansion?
Della Frye: I had to agree to go on not one, but two dates with a sweaty guy named Vic. Don’t even ask me.
Della Frye: Rhonda Silver’s number. Did we just break the law?
Cal McAffrey: Nope, that’s what you call damn fine reporting.
Della Frye: There’s no way. There is no way we can meet that deadline.
Cal McAffrey: Yes, we can. All right , guys, we’re getting our ball busted.
Quotes from Rachel
“I think that she realizes that it’s hard to be objective and be a great reporter. I think she realizes that things aren’t so straightforward and that it’s hard to have a sexy story and tell the truth.”
-On her character Della Frye (CanMag)
“The script was so different from the original series, that it was kind of just a whole new animal. Quite different.”
-On the difference between the original series (Latino)
“We looked at photographs of newsrooms and saw what everyone was wearing. There was a practicality to what they wear.”
-On the difference between the original series (Ny Daily)
“Kevin [Kevin Macdonald, director] and I had a conversation about it and talked about Della a little bit and would I be right for it and just heard his take on it. It just started with a conversation and went from there.”

Critical Reception
“McAdams, with her lively eyes and large, expressive forehead, holds her own against Crowe. Mercifully, she avoids any temptation to play girly and demure to his grizzled alpha male.”
-Sukhdev Sandhu (Telegraph)
“McAdams holds her own with Crowe in every scene, a real accomplishment that more seasoned actors can’t say. She plays Della as callow but not cynical, and the film wisely avoids making the relationship between her and mentor Cal a romantic one.”
-Jim Vejvoda (IGN)
“Only Robin Wright Penn and Rachel McAdams are underused, though they do what they can with what they are given.”
-Scott Mendelson (Huffington Post)
