“Midnight in Paris” Box Office Week 2

Last week we reported “Midnight in Paris” made $579,000 for the first estimated box office stats in only 5 theaters in New York and LA taking the 15th place in top weekend average ever. The actual box office was $599,003 for it’s opening weekend, and with that number the movie takes the 13th place beating “Aladdin” and “Evita”.

This week the movie expanded to more theaters (58 theaters in total) and it takes the 7th place in the box office. The total box office is now $2,824,000 million and $11,529,644 Foreign. In the next week the movie will be released in even more theaters and in foreign countries as well.

Placing No. 7, Midnight—which debuted last weekend to a per location average of $99,834—grossed $1.9 million as it expanded into a total of 58 theaters for a 10-day cume of $2.8 million, according to Rentrak.

LA Times Untitled Terrence Malick Article

Another article was released by LA Times about ‘What’s next for Terrence Malick after Tree of Life’. His latest movie (Tree of Life) premiered at Cannes and was released (limited) this weekend in the US. We already reported it was reported the movie will be more experimental then Tree of Life, but the new article has some new bits.

It looks like the movie is officially wrapped (for now, because with Terrence Malick you never know). We really look forward to this movie, it sounds like an interesting movie so far! According to the article Terrence Malick is expecting to finish the editing this summer since he wants to shoot a new project by then, if so we can expect a 2012 release which was questioned by a lot of reporters. In February of this year we already got the first look because a production still of Rachel and Ben Alleck was released.

Malick has finished shooting his new film, a drama once titled “Burial” and now without a title. Starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams and Olga Kurylenko, its contents have been shrouded in mystery, as is typical fora Malick project.

What is known: It’s a love story, and it uses some of the same radical slice-of-life production techniques used on “Tree.” One person who worked on the film described it as even more experimental, in fact. It’s also the first film Malick has made that’s not in period, which should make for a switch for viewers used to his visions of throwback America.

There’s no U.S. distributor yet for the Affleck movie, but one person who saw a few minutes that are being shown to foreign buyers said that the meditativeness for which Malick is known is there in spades. There was no discernible story or a voice-over in the footage, but shots of Affleck and McAdams in Malick’s trademark man-in-nature style.

Of course, given the gaps between Malick’s movies, the big question is when the 67-year-old’s new project will reach theaters. There were at least two sets of reshoots that had the actors flying back to a Paris location after the production was complete, suggesting an elaborate, Malickian level of tinkering.

But compared with “Tree,” whose haul of effects bogged down the production, Malick’s sixth project has considerably fewer visual arabesques. And Malick himself may have offered the biggest clue as to when his new movie might be ready: He has told members of his production team to keep the summer and fall open for a possible shoot of yet another film –- which means he expects to be finished with this one in a matter of months.

Leaving her Hotel in NYC (May 18)

We just came across a new set of candids of Rachel leaving her hotel in New York the day after the premiere of “Midnight in Paris“. She was seen this week in Toronto so we guess she flew back after New York. We only found two photos so far, but we hope we can add more additions later on. In the mean time you can enjoy these.

Terrence Malick Project Update

With Rachel wrapping up promotion for “Midnight in Paris” and currently no confirmed new projects coming up we only can hope we more information on the projects that are already filmed. It’s always though to get new information on the Terrence Malick project since Malick’s work method is low-key. But since his latest film “Tree of Life“, which won the The Palme d’Or during the Cannes Film Festival, was released during Cannes we have a little bit more information on the project with Rachel, Ben Affleck, Rachel Weisz, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem and Barry Pepper.

The movie was shot late 2010, Rachel confirmed she was shooting around October/November 2010 and returned for re-shoots/additional shoots March 2011. There were also sightings of Ben Affleck and Olga Kurylenko in Paris last week, no confirmation if Rachel was there as well. The movie is still untitled (rumored title “The Burial“) and is set to release in 2012.

24 Frames reports that Malick recently wrapped reshoots and finished photography on the film and that according to their source it is “even more experimental than ‘Tree of Life.’” Of course, that’s fairly vague and could mean anything, but given that Malick has taken fusing drama with much larger spiritual and existential questions in “The Tree Of Life,” we’re not surprised that his next effort may be even more boldly freeform in its approach. But “experimental” means many things to many people so don’t cling to that descriptor too hard.

“The Vow” On Set Additions

We recently came across some additions of Rachel on set of her upcoming movie, co-starring Channing Tatum, “The Vow” which is expected to release February 10, 2012. We added the full set of Michael Sheen visiting Rachel on set of the movie in Toronto (October 16th, 2010) and an untagged version of Rachel on set wearing the pink wedding dress in Chicago (October 26th, 2010).

According to the official facebook from Channing Tatum’s Official website Channing Tatum Unwrapped the movie already had it’s first early screening a few weeks ago (April 2011). An early screening is common, sometimes they screen a movie a few times with audience to see how they respond for the editing process.

The movie also made already a $5,899,206 Foreign and it only opened in Spain and France so far, taking the second place in France and the first place in Spain. Congratulations to Rachel & the cast/crew! We hope it will do only better in the next weeks.

Meanwhile, opening at just six locations, Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris took in an estimated $579,000, boasting the top per-location average of the year so far. That more than tripled the debut of Allen’s last movie, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (also at six locations), and marked his most impressive limited launch in decades.

“Midnight in Paris” Hits Theaters Today!

Midnight in Paris” opens in theaters today, it still has a limited release so only in New York and LA but it gets a wider release in the next weeks. The movie opened Cannes film festival and is getting positive reviews so far.

The movie is directed by Woody Allen and co-stars Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Adrien Brody and Michael Sheen.

W Magazine Feature: Woody Allen’s Movie Muses

As we reported earlier, Rachel is featured in June’s W Magazine (with Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks on the cover) and today W Magazine released the interview and outtake. We added Rachel’s magazine scan – we will add the article scan(s) as soon as possible – and the outtake in our gallery and we absolutely love it! She looks so stunning, we hope more outtakes will be released some day. The photo is featured with an article/interview with Woody talking about his muses, and he has high praise for Rachel as well.

You can watch all Woody’s muses in a sideshow at W Magazine’s official website. The photos were taken by Sebastian Kim and styled by Carolyn Tate Angel. His other muses, that are featured in the article, are Naomi Watts, Penélope Cruz, Téa Leoni and Mariel Hemingway. The magazine will hit newsstands May 24th.

In this year’s Midnight in Paris, he tweaks Rachel McAdams’s good-girl image, reimagining her as a socially ambitious, fast-talking nag. “I wanted her to play the bad girl, the girl who’s sexy enough to be negative and still interesting,” Allen told me over the phone this spring. “But I’m crazy about Rachel. I have great adoration and lust and interest in all of the women in my films. It would thrill me to go out with all of them.”
